I graduated with a BFA major in graphic design, with minors in photography and art history. While pursuing a career as a graphic designer, I initially worked with altered photography as a medium for more creative expression.
Many moves made darkroom access difficult, so the artwork became more collage oriented. With a serious collecting habit, there is always a ready supply of material to work from. I am inspired by a background knowledge of art history and design, as well as a love for the quirky things I collect. My collages are about edges, juxtapositions, layers and overlaps. The works enable me to integrate these different aspects into the visual stories they tell, and allow me to relink creativity and working with my hands.
Recently, with the constraint of movement in the outside world, the precision of the collage work has felt somewhat restricting. More movement of some kind was needed, so I started experimenting with fluid media: watercolor, sumi ink, colored inks. Somehow this fluidity and the movement of the brush feel like the right way to work right now.

Love your work, and I know exactly where you are coming from with relinking your creativity and working with your hands
Thank you – your puppets are fantastic. I would take every one of them home…especially the devil (I collect them).
What do you collect, Devils or puppets?
devils…and some of them are puppets.
On another blog I see you were a picture framer while being an art student. It has helped me a lot at different times in my career as an artist…..one time owning a gallery/framing business. That helped me move to and live in New York for 15 years. Best wishes, Robert
